Overview

This journey in the mountain of Byblos will allow us to understand, through the geography of the region, its importance at the religious level. We will discover the beautiful village of Qartaba, at 1200 meters above sea level, after a break at the Roman temple of Machnaqa, in the middle of breathtaking nature.

We will then arrive at the cave of Afqa and its famous spring, where was celebrated, since the third millennium BC, the rebirth in spring of the Canaanite deities Adonis and Astarte (Ashtarut or Ishtar-Easter). Thousands of pilgrims from all over the world flocked there every year, whose stories are told, like those of Gilgamesh and Osiris, in ancient tablets.
